Use cases
Open a reading list of papers and sources at once
Your reading list sits in a document, a syllabus or a page of references, and you want every paper open so you can work through them. Paste the list into MultiOpen or take the links from the page, press Add URL, then Open all, and each source opens in its own Safari tab.
Open your reading list at once
- Copy your reading list. A plain list of URLs works, and so do notes, an email or a table with links inside the text.
- In Safari, open MultiOpen. On iPhone and iPad, tap the page menu next to the address, then MultiOpen. On Mac, click the MultiOpen button in the toolbar or press ⌥⇧O.
- Tap Paste, then Add URL. Smart link recognition keeps only the links and drops duplicates.
- Press Open all. Every paper and source opens in its own tab.
First time? Safari asks you to turn the extension on once. The steps are on the home page.
Take every reference from a page
A bibliography, a course page or a list of sources online already holds the links you need. Open that page in Safari and press Page. MultiOpen collects the links and puts them in the field, so you can check them before anything opens.
- To take only the reference list, select it first. Page then collects only the links in your selection.
- Press Page and look through the links in the field. Delete the lines you don't need, such as links to the site's own menus.
- Press Add URL, then Open all.

Keep each project or course as a Set
A Set is a saved list with a name. When the list for a project is ready, press Save set and name it after the course or the paper you are writing. You can keep up to 12 Sets. When you come back to the project, tap its Set in the Sets row to load it, then press Open all.
Open 40 papers without slowing Safari
PDFs and long articles take time to load. Under Opening, choose When viewed. All the tabs appear at once, but each page loads only when you switch to it. You can line up 40 papers in the tab bar and read them one at a time.
With At once, MultiOpen opens the first 20 tabs right away and the rest in waves of 20, a moment apart. There is more in how to open many links without freezing Safari.
Gather your tabs back after a session
At the end of a study session the tab bar is full. Press Save tabs, and MultiOpen keeps your open tabs as a new Set with today's date. Close the tabs and pick up from that Set tomorrow. To add the open tabs to your current list, press Tabs. The full routine is in save Safari tabs as a Set.

More tips
- Your current list is auto-saved. Close the MultiOpen window and the list is still there next time.
- On iPad and Mac the window is wider, with two columns.
- On Mac, turn on In a new window under Opening to keep a project's sources apart from your other tabs.
- Only need a few papers today? Under Open in batches of, choose 5 or 10 and open the list in parts.
